National award highlights ¶¶Ņõproās commitment to hands-on, community-engaged learning
¶¶Ņõpro is proud to announce that Dr. Brittney Yancy, assistant professor of history, has been named a 2025 Standout Faculty Award recipient by the Campus Democracy Challenge. The national honor recognizes Dr. Yancyās innovative work in engaging students through community-based learning that inspires civic leadership and real-world impact.

At ¶¶Ņõpro, hands-on learning isnāt an added bonus ā itās built into the student experience. Through projects that bridge the classroom and community, IC students tackle real issues, develop leadership skills, and grow into active citizens. Dr. Yancyās work exemplifies this approach, offering students the opportunity to explore history and politics through direct civic involvement.
āThis recognition reflects the kind of experience ¶¶Ņõpro students can expect ā where learning extends far beyond textbooks,ā said Dr. Dane Wendell, Dean of Faculty. āDr. Yancy creates space for students to actively participate in democracy. Whether itās organizing voter registration drives, hosting election night discussions, or simply having open conversations about civic responsibility, her classes prepare students to lead in the real world.ā
The Campus Democracy Challenge selected just 37 individuals from over 1,000 participating colleges and universities nationwide for their dedication to nonpartisan student engagement during the 2024 election. Dr. Yancyās award celebrates her role in empowering students to become informed, involved, and impactful members of society.
¶¶Ņõpro students routinely participate in campus-wide events like Party at the Polls and Voter Power Hour ā experiences designed not only to foster civic awareness but also to bring students together in meaningful ways. These programs are part of ICās broader mission to ensure students Graduate READY to make a difference.
